What documents are required to rent a bike in Manali?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
To rent a motorcycle or scooty with GoWheelo in Manali, you must hold a valid, permanent Driving License (Learner’s permits are not accepted). At pickup, you must submit any one original government ID (Aadhar Card, Voter ID, or Passport). This original ID is securely held at our hub and returned to you immediately upon the safe return of the bike.

Do I need a permit to take a rental bike to Rohtang Pass?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
Yes! A Rohtang Pass Permit is mandatory for all motorized vehicles, including rental bikes. There is a daily quota (set by the NGT), and permits must be applied for online via the Rohtang Permit portal. Please note that Tuesdays are maintenance days, and Rohtang Pass is closed to all tourists. If you are traveling beyond Rohtang to Leh or Spiti, you only need an "Onward Journey" congestion permit.

Can I take a Manali rental bike for local sightseeing in Leh-Ladakh?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
This is a critical rule for 2026: While you can ride a Manali-registered bike from Manali to Leh, the Ladakh Bike Union does not allow outside rental bikes for local sightseeing in restricted areas like Pangong Tso, Nubra Valley, or Hanle. You must park your Manali bike in Leh and rent a locally registered (yellow plate) bike for those specific inner-circuit routes.

How long does it take to get the security deposit back in Manali?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
GoWheelo guarantees a transparent refund process. After you drop off the bike at our Manali hub, our team performs a quick inspection for damages and checks for any traffic violations. Once verified, your fully refundable security deposit is processed and returned to your account within 24 to 48 hours.

What is the best bike for a trip to Spiti Valley or Leh-Ladakh?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
For the rugged terrains of the Spiti Circuit or the Manali-Leh Highway, we highly recommend the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or Scram 411. These bikes offer the high ground clearance and torque required for water crossings and steep high-altitude passes. For local sightseeing to Solang Valley or Atal Tunnel, a Classic 350 or a high-torque scooter like the NTorq is sufficient.

Does the rental price include fuel for the Ladakh trip?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
No, our competitive Manali rental rates are exclusive of fuel. We follow a "Like-to-Like" policy: return the bike with the same fuel level provided at pickup. Pro Tip: If heading toward Leh, ensure you fill your tank (and carry extra cans) at Tandi, as it is the last petrol pump for the next 365 km before reaching Karu/Leh.

Are helmets mandatory for both rider and pillion in Manali?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
Yes, helmets are strictly mandatory for both the rider and the pillion passenger. Himachal Pradesh Police are very vigilant, especially on the Mall Road and NH-3. GoWheelo provides one complimentary ISI-marked helmet with every booking, and a second helmet for your pillion can be rented at our hub for a nominal daily fee.

What happens if the bike breaks down on the Manali-Leh Highway?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
Riding in the Himalayas is unpredictable. GoWheelo bikes are serviced specifically for high-altitude endurance. However, in case of a mechanical failure in remote areas like Sarchu or Jispa, we provide 24/7 telephonic support. For long-duration tours (Leh/Spiti), we recommend opting for our "Roadside Assistance" add-on or a backup mechanic vehicle.

Is there a daily kilometer limit for rentals in Manali?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
No, GoWheelo does not restrict you with rigid daily caps! You receive a total kilometer allowance based on your overall booking duration, which you can use flexibly. This is ideal for riders who might cover 400 km in one day heading to Jispa and then take it easy the next day at Atal Tunnel and Sissu.

Where are the GoWheelo bike rental hubs located in Manali?

Expand FAQCollapse FAQ
We have multiple convenient pickup points strategically located for travelers. You can rent a bike at our hubs near Manali Mall Road (Tibetan Monastery), Gompa Road, Old Manali, and the Manali Private Bus Stand (Siyal). Our hubs are easily accessible via local taxis or a short walk from most hotels in the main town.
