When a monthly bike rental beats booking by the day

The monthly plan pays for itself sooner than most people expect. An Activa 5G costs ₹399 for a single day but ₹4,499 for a month, so from the 12th day onwards, monthly is cheaper. The Honda Cliq and Activa 6G cross over at about 13 days. On a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 it takes just 9 days.

So if you're in Bangalore for two weeks of training, a short project or the gap before your own bike arrives, book the month even if you won't use all of it. For anything shorter, look at the weekly options on our bike rental in Bangalore page.

Petrol scooter or electric: what a month on the road really costs

The rent is only part of what you'll spend. Petrol in Bangalore was about ₹111 a litre at the end of October 2026. Take a typical 15 km office commute each way: that's about 780 km a month over 26 working days. A petrol scooter doing around 45 km a litre in city traffic burns roughly 17 litres, or about ₹1,900 a month in fuel.

The same distance on an electric scooter charged at home costs around ₹200 in electricity. Put the rent and the running cost together and an Ola S1 at ₹5,499 a month (with unlimited kilometres) comes out cheaper than an Activa 5G with its fuel bill. The longer your commute, the bigger the gap.

The catch is charging. An EV only makes sense if you can plug in where you sleep. Many PGs and older apartment buildings have no socket near the parking, so ask your landlord before you book. BESCOM runs about 209 public charging stations across the city, but relying on them every day gets tiring fast. If home charging works for you, compare the Ola S1 with the Ather 450X and Ather Rizta on our electric bike rental page.

Can you rent an electric scooter without a licence?

"Electric scooter monthly rental without licence" is a common search in Bangalore, and the answer depends on the scooter. Under Indian motor vehicle rules, only low-speed e-scooters with a top speed of 25 km/h and a motor of 250W or less can be ridden without a licence or registration.

That's too slow to keep up with traffic on the Outer Ring Road or Hosur Road. Regular electric scooters like the Ola S1 and Ather are registered vehicles and need a valid two-wheeler driving licence, just like a petrol scooter. A learner's licence isn't accepted for any GoWheelo rental.

Pair your scooter with Namma Metro

For a lot of Bangalore commutes, the quickest route is a scooter to the nearest metro station and the train for the rest. The Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra opened in August 2025 and runs through Silk Board and Electronic City. Most of its 16 stations have two-wheeler parking. Electronic City station has the biggest lot, with space for over 950 bikes, while most others hold around 150 and fill up early on weekdays.

If you plan to park at a metro station, get there before 9 am and use only the marked parking areas. Commuters have been fined for parking outside them at the Infosys station. A monthly rental suits this pattern well, because you always have the scooter for the first and last few kilometres.

Helmets and pillion rules in Bangalore

In Karnataka, both the rider and the pillion must wear an ISI-marked helmet. Bengaluru's traffic cameras record the pillion as well as the rider. The fine reaches you as an e-challan, sometimes weeks later, and repeat offences can lead to your licence being suspended.

GoWheelo gives you one helmet free with every rental. A second helmet costs ₹50 a day, which adds up to about ₹1,500 over a month. If you'll carry a pillion regularly, buying your own ISI-certified helmet usually works out cheaper and fits better. Any unpaid fines from your rental period are settled from your deposit, so check the scooter's number on the Bengaluru Traffic Police portal before you return it.

Documents for a monthly bike rental if you've just moved here

A monthly rental needs your Aadhaar card, your original driving licence (kept by GoWheelo for the rental period) and local address proof. If you'd rather keep your licence with you, you can pay a ₹5,000 deposit instead.

New arrivals often get stuck on the address proof. If your Aadhaar still shows your home town, keep your PG or rental agreement handy, and call support before pickup to confirm what's accepted. Sorting this out before you leave saves a wasted trip to the hub. Your licence also needs to be valid for the whole rental period, not just on the day you collect the bike.

Monthly bikes for delivery partners

Bangalore has one of the busiest quick-commerce and food-delivery markets in India, and many riders don't own a two-wheeler. If you deliver full time, you'll probably ride 100 km or more a day, so fuel matters more than the rent. An EV with an unlimited-km plan like the Ola S1 keeps your running cost close to flat, as long as you can charge overnight.

Use the free monthly service. At delivery mileage, brake pads and tyres wear out in weeks, not months. Report any problem straight away rather than riding on it. A breakdown in the middle of a shift costs you more in lost orders than the time it takes to get the bike checked.

Pickup locations and doorstep delivery across Bangalore

Monthly bikes and scooters are available from GoWheelo hubs in HSR Layout, Haralur, Sarjapur Road, Koramangala, Indiranagar, JP Nagar, CV Raman Nagar, Shivajinagar and Yelahanka.

If you work in Electronic City, Whitefield, Marathahalli or Bellandur, ask for doorstep delivery to your PG or office. That way you don't spend your first morning crossing the city to collect the bike.

Can you rent out your own bike in Bangalore?

A privately registered bike with a white number plate can't legally be rented out to other people. Two-wheelers rented for self-drive need commercial registration under the Rent a Motor Cycle Scheme and carry a black number plate with yellow letters. Every GoWheelo bike meets this, which also means its insurance covers you as a renter.

If you own bikes or scooters and want to earn from them the legal way, you can list your vehicle with GoWheelo.
